Artistic Team
In his 23rd season as Artistic Director at CMT, Kevin has led the nation’s premier theater company for youth in taking on increasingly challenging and professional-quality productions. His innovative approach to productions includes incorporating modern techniques and technology, culminating in recognition of artistic excellence from the National Endowment for the Arts in the form of ten grants. Kevin was an Honorable Mention for the 2016 Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre Education, an honor given to only twenty educators throughout the entire nation. A recipient of the prestigious Lin Wright Special Recognition Award by the American Alliance for Theater and Education, he’s been the guest speaker at the International Association of Theater Educators Conference in Washington D.C., and the Education and Technology conference in New York City. Kevin has collaborated on productions in a variety of venues all over the world. He’s staged ice shows, magic shows, musical revues, industrial shows, corporate parties, television specials and book musicals for a variety of companies, including Tropworld (Atlantic City), Harrah’s (Reno), Six Flags Parks (nationwide), and Royal Viking Cruise Lines (worldwide). Some of the unique productions Kevin has worked on include You’re in the Movies (MGM Grand) in Las Vegas, World of Wonders (Everland) in Seoul, South Korea, and a special Easter Celebration (The White House) in Washington D.C. Kevin has appeared several times as a guest artist with the San Jose Symphony, and has served on the Exhibits Committee at the Tech Museum of Innovation.
Shannon Self is excited to mix the virtual with the reality at CMT this summer! For the past 20+ years, Shannon’s CMT directing/choreography credits and collaborations have included: Anything Goes, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, 13, Crazy for You, Joseph, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Ragtime, Mary Poppins, Jekyll & Hyde, Disney’s Tarzan, Aida, Barnum, Tom Sawyer, Cinderella, Singin’ in the Rain, Disney’s When You Wish, The Who’s Tommy, West Side Story, Leader of the Pack, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Chess, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Miss Saigon. Shannon’s regional performing credits include: A Chorus Line (Cassie, Val, Sheila); Chicago (Roxie Hart); White Christmas (Judy); Ragtime (Evelyn Nesbitt); Beauty and the Beast (Babette, Silly Girl, Carpet); The King and I (Anna); Chess (The Arbiter); Seven Brides (Martha); The Full Monty (Pam), and Disney’s When You Wish (Cinderella). Shannon is a proud CMT alumna, a full time mother to her daughter Sabrina and teacher to 300 students at ACDS, and has a BA in Theater and Dance from Santa Clara University.
Whitney Janssen grew up in San Jose performing in numerous CMT shows and Marie Stinnett Dance At the Gyms. Her first, of many, shows with Kevin Hauge was Guys and Dolls in 1994. Whitney created Archbishop Mitty High School’s dance program and has choreographed Beauty and the Beast, Addams Family, 42ndStreet, Drowsy Chaperone, Spelling Bee, Rock of Ages, Bullets Over Broadway, Bright Star and many other shows at AMHS. She created choreography for CMT’s Marquee Production of Guys and Dolls and MainStage 50th Anniversary production of West Side Story. Whitney toured regionally in Aida, Beauty and the Beast, Footloose and A Chorus Line. Locally, Whitney has appeared in Peter Pan (Wendy) and Music Man (Zaneeta) at Cabrillo Stage, Music Man at AMTSJ, The Full Monty, Chicago and A Chorus Line at CMT’s Marquee. She taught for American Musical Theater of San Jose, CMTSJ, Marie Stinnett Dance, Notre Dame de Namur University, San Jose State University and Campbell Community Center. Whitney completed a B.F.A. in Musical Theater from Millikin University and a certificate in Pilates from CorePilates NYC. When not at the studio or theater, you can find her at the soccer field with her boys.
