The new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films (and developed by Disney Theatrical Productions expressly for licensing to theatres), features a book by Bridget Carpenter – the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” – and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normaland If/Then.
When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.

Hilary is thrilled to be directing again this year at CMT. She had the pleasure of directing Sound of Music last season and teaching classes with all these amazingly talented young artists. A graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory/University, she holds a B.F.A. in Theatre for Youth with a minor in Voice. Hilary started her directing career at Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, Florida and Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She has helped theatres all over the country with building their theatre curriculum and education programs. Hilary moved to California to tour with CTC and has since worked with various theatres in the Bay Area as an actress, director, and teaching artist. When not found in the theatre she’s mom to two amazing kiddos Brooks & Hadley.

Megan Bernstein
Megan Bernstein started playing the piano at age five, and five short years later when St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville was desperate for a pianist, Megan was booked for her very first gig! From there Megan started playing for other local churches thanks to the encouragement of her music teacher, Leslie Henderson. Her vocal talents inspired her to write music for the Catholic Church. Megan has written over 30 songs and has directed countless choirs for the Diocese of San Jose. Megan is currently an educator at Parkview Elementary School allowing her to use her gifts, talents, and love of music to inspire young people!
Megan is an accomplished vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter, performing in local bands for many years, including anchoring lead vocals for the acclaimed Bay Area band OTR, who won the “Last Band Standing” contest on KFOX and opened up for Y&T and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Megan is currently the keyboardist and lead singer for Arena, a classic rock cover band. She also performs solo gigs at local venues. Megan is thrilled to be at CMT and is so grateful for this opportunity!
